Berry Shortcake

If your kids are anything like mine then you know as soon as dinner’s done they ask, “What’s for dessert?” Surprise them one night by saying, “Berry Shortcake!” It’s a great summer treat for both kids and adults and it’s the perfect recipe to get kids involved. Berry Shortcake doesn’t require a lot of time either. It took Chef Bill no longer than an hour, from start to finish. Try it tonight and have fun creating delicious memories. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
2 C flour
4 tsp. baking powder
¾ tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. shortening
¾ C half & half
Melted butter to brush shortcakes
Assorted berries*
Ice cream and/or whipped cream

Directions:
Heat oven to 450 degrees.
In a large mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut in butter and shortening. Mix in half & half. Drop dough by large spoonfuls onto a baking sheet and brush tops with butter. Sprinkle with sugar and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and serve with berries, ice cream and/or whipped cream.

*Note: Other seasonal fruit can be substituted for the berries.
